Why Calibrate?

In the bolting world, calibration measures the accuracy and quality of torque produced by bolting equipment. While we recommend regularly calibrating all tools, calibration is especially critical for torque wrenches. With complex moving parts and constant exposure to harsh environments, torque wrenches tend to naturally drift out of calibration. This causes bolting equipment to produce less accurate or inconsistent results.

The need to calibrate is based on tool-specific ISO standards, which state how many cycles can be performed before equipment requires service. As a general rule, the more often a tool is used, the more often it will need calibration to ensure safe and accurate operation. In the very least, ISO standard 17025 recommends calibrating torque wrenches every 5,000th cycle or once per year.
